Nigerian law in practice

What clients in Lagos most often need.

Doing business in Nigeria begins with the right corporate foundation. Companies are incorporated through the Corporate Affairs Commission under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020, which modernised company formation, introduced single-member private companies and streamlined post-incorporation filings. We handle incorporation, shareholder agreements, regulatory licensing and the registration of foreign companies seeking to operate in Nigeria.

Property transactions in Lagos State carry their own requirements. Because the Land Use Act vests land in the State Governor, most transfers of a statutory right of occupancy require the Governor’s consent to be valid, alongside proper perfection through stamping and registration. We conduct title investigations, manage consent and perfection, and advise landlords and tenants on Lagos tenancy law.

Data protection has become a board-level issue. The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 established the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and created enforceable obligations for organisations that process personal data, including lawful bases, data subject rights and breach reporting. We help businesses build compliant data practices and respond to regulatory enquiries.

Where ideas are the asset, we protect them. We register and enforce trademarks, patents and designs, and structure licensing arrangements so that the value created in Nigeria is properly owned and defensible.
